Become a Service Dog Puppy Raiser
Service Dogs of Virginia is looking for puppy raisers!
A new litter of Service Dogs of Virginia puppies is on the way this fall, and we need loving homes ready to welcome them in early January. We'll confirm the litter on October 8. As a puppy raiser, you'll bring an SDV puppy into your home and help shape the dog it will become. You'll teach house manners, take it out into the world, and help it grow into a confident, steady companion. One day that puppy will change life for a person living with a disability, and you'll be the one who got it started. Raisers tell us it's one of the most rewarding things they've ever done.
What we ask of you:
Weekly puppy class: once a week, you and your puppy come to class, either at our facility (673 Berkmar Court, Charlottesville) or at a public training location.
Puppies go to puppy raisers around 8 weeks and stay til around 6 months of age.
A home that's ready for a puppy: time, patience, and a household that's willing to foster success.
What SDV provides:
All food, vet care, and medications, at no cost to you.
Weekly training classes and support from our trainers every step of the way.
How It Works:
Fill out a puppy raiser application here https://www.servicedogsva.org/puppy-raisers-application
Attend raiser training class on Saturday, October 10, at 10 am - 12:30 pm at our facility.
We'll schedule a home visit.
Once you're approved, get ready: your puppy comes home in early January!
Raising a puppy is a real commitment, and the reward is just as big. If you can make the October 10 class, please apply by October 7. We'd love to have you on our team.
